Chippa United vs Supersport United

2024/25 Betway Premiership
Matchday 7
Chippa United v SuperSport United
Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium
Gqeberha, South Africa

Kick-off is at 19h30 CAT

SuperSport United will be looking to arrest an eight match-winless run against Chippa United in the Betway Premiership when they clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday, November 26.

Matsatsantsa have picked up just nine points from their last 10 meetings with the Chilli Boys, who came out on top both home (1-0) and away (2-0) in the league last season.

Gavin Hunt’s side are unbeaten in their last two outings after recording a 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs on October 26 and playing out to a 0-0 draw with Golden Arrows four days later.

The Tshwane giants head to Gqeberha two points behind Chippa (6th) in seventh place as they go in search of their first win in the Eastern Cape for more than five years.

Chippa will be determined to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to AmaZulu on October 29 which was their second defeat in three matches and their third of the campaign.

Kwanele Kopo’s side find themselves tied with Sekhukhune United (5th) on 10 points and are just three outside the CAF berths occupied by Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City at the moment.

SuperSport added much-needed firepower to the ranks on November 15 with the signing of Samir Nurkovic, who is relishing the prospect of working with Hunt.

“The feeling is amazing and I’m super excited to work, in my opinion, under one of the best coaches in South Africa,” Nurkovic said. “Coach Gavin Hunt is known for his strong leadership and ability to bring out the best in his players.

“This gives me a great opportunity to grow as a player and contribute significantly to the team’s overall success.”

Kopo admits it is always emotional facing Matsatsantsa, where he and Thabo September spent much of their careers as players.

“I didn’t leave SuperSport, SuperSport left me. Supersport decided that they were restructuring,” Kopo said. “And unfortunately I was amongst the people that, because I was with the youth academy I was amongst the people that got retrenched for lack of a better word.

“So, I didn’t really opt to leave Supersport, it was a very difficult period for me personally having spent 21 years in the club and having started the academy for that club.

“The next game is Supersport United, it will always be emotional playing against Supersport United for both myself and Thabo September.”
